Aphasia Support Comes to Preston
We’re delighted to announce the launch of Aphasia Support's brand-new Aphasia Café in Preston, created to offer a warm, supportive, and social space for local people living with aphasia and their loved ones.
Community-Led Support in the Heart of Preston
Our charity's new Preston Aphasia Café has been made possible thanks to the commitment of local residents Lucy Park, Margery Regan, and Janet Cain, who have championed the project through the Aphasia Support branch committee. Their dedication has helped bring our second Lancashire-based initiative to life.
Our CEO, James Major, said:
“We are so grateful for the outpouring of support we have received from the local community. The Preston Aphasia Café is a much-needed space where people affected by aphasia can feel understood, supported, and connected. Thanks to the dedication of local champions and valuable input from residents, we are proud to launch a new service which offers long-term support in the heart of the community.”
What to Expect at the Preston Aphasia Café
The café will offer a relaxed and friendly environment where attendees can:
- Connect with others who truly understand their experiences
- Practise communication skills in a supportive setting
- Receive guidance from a qualified Speech and Language Therapist
- Benefit from the help of trained volunteers
- Build confidence through conversation and community
Whether you’re living with aphasia yourself or supporting a loved one, the café offers a safe space to share, socialise, and feel truly understood.
A Growing Community
It’s estimated that more than 570 people in the Preston area are living with aphasia. Our goal is to ensure that everyone affected by the condition knows they are not alone and can access meaningful, long-term support close to home.
Jo, a former nurse who attends one of our existing groups, described the difference this kind of support can make:
“It’s such a fantastic help. It’s the best thing. Friendships, love and support - that is how it is. When I first came, I couldn’t say anything. The group has helped me get better and better and better.”
