One to One Support
Available in West Yorkshire
Aphasia Support offers free, one-to-one speech and language therapy in your home or a residential setting.
A speech and language therapist creates a personalised plan tailored to your communication goals, and a fully trained volunteer provides in-person support every two weeks.
Our six-month programme options include computer therapy and supported conversation, giving you the tools you need to communicate with confidence.

Computer Therapy
Individual assessment: A speech and language therapist creates a personalised support plan tailored to the client’s communication goals.
Home visits: A fully trained volunteer visits the client at-home to provide one-to-one support every two weeks for a period of six months.
iPad therapy: Clients access the charity's iPad loan scheme, enabling regular use of leading therapy apps such as Cuespeak, Tactus Therapy and Beautiful Voice.
Celebrate achievements: Milestones and progress are recognised to motivate and boost confidence.
Ongoing review: Progress is regularly reviewed by a speech and language therapist to ensure communication goals are met, next steps are clear, and future support is planned.
*Please note: One-to-one support is restricted to client's living in West Yorkshire (aged 18-64). We are currently operating a waiting list for this service. During this time, clients are encouraged to receive immediate and ongoing support via our Aphasia Cafe group settings (if appropriate).
Supported Conversation
Individual assessment: A speech and language therapist creates a personalised support plan tailored to the client’s communication goals.
Home visits: A fully trained volunteer visits the client at-home to provide one-to-one support every two weeks for a period of six months.
Supported conversation: The volunteer uses evidence-based total communication strategies to facilitate meaningful communication, helping the client to express themselves and engage confidently (without the use of technology).
Celebrate achievements: Milestones and progress are recognised to motivate and boost confidence.
Ongoing review: Progress is regularly reviewed by a speech and language therapist to ensure communication goals are met, next steps are clear, and future support is planned.

To be eligible for one-to-one support, you must be of working age (18-64) and a resident in one of the following locations:
- Leeds
- Wakefield
- Bradford
- Calderdale
- Kirklees
Due to an increase in demand for our services, we are currently operating a waiting list for one-to-one support. During this time, clients are encouraged to receive immediate and ongoing support via our Aphasia Cafe group settings (if appropriate).
