Aphasia Support is excited to announce the launch of its upcoming Scarborough-based support group designed to help local residents living with aphasia.
Our newest group is funded by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority through the UK government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Starting on 10th February, weekly sessions will be held at Coast and Vale Community Action and will run until 31st March.
Every session is designed to be accessible, supportive, and tailored to individual needs, helping people local with aphasia to communicate with confidence and reconnect with their community.
James Major, CEO of Aphasia Support, explains:
“Around 350 people are estimated to be living with aphasia in the Scarborough area. Many are facing some of the most challenging moments of their lives, struggling to express themselves, stay connected with loved ones, or take part in everyday activities. This group has been created to give people hope, friendship, and practical support so they can live life to the fullest.”
Participants from our existing groups have shared how transformative the programme can be, including Paul, who says:
“By yourself, first of all you are lost, you are not who you were, everything takes such a long time. The group has lifted up all parts of my life and helped me move forward after my stroke. Everyone made a massive difference. It’s helped me feel 100% better – more independent and confident.”
Registration is now open. We are accepting referrals until midday on 27th January 2026.
