Aphasia Support is a growing charity looking to appoint new trustees in 2026. We are seeking people who want to help shape a charity that truly listens to, understands, and supports people affected by aphasia.

With ambitions to expand our impact across the North of England, our trustees help guide our direction and ensure we grow in thoughtful, sustainable, and effective ways.

The Charity

Aphasia Support is a passionate, community-centred charity. Our mission is to improve the wellbeing of people with aphasia and their carers by providing tailored speech and language therapy and long-term support. We want to create a world where every person with Aphasia has access to support and can communicate with confidence. 

As a trustee, you will help shape and sustain the future of our growing charity. You will join our committed and diverse Board of Trustees, working alongside our dedicated staff team, to help bring Aphasia Support to under-resourced communities across the UK.

Our Aims

  • To reduce isolation of people with Aphasia.
  • To improve the communication skills and wellbeing of people with Aphasia.
  • To raise awareness and understanding of Aphasia.
  • To improve the knowledge, skills and confidence of carers and volunteers in providing support to people with Aphasia.
  • To supplement NHS services by providing long term support for people with Aphasia.

What’s involved?

  • Attend trustee meetings three times a year on Zoom with one in person trustee meeting which coincides with the AGM usually in October. Trustee meetings tend to be on Monday mornings from 10 – 12. 
  • Join at least one of three trustee sub groups - Finance, Strategy & Performance or Governance which meet 4 times a year on Zoom. Meetings are usually held in the afternoons (2 to 3 weeks prior to full board meetings).
  • Provide insight, ideas and oversight into charity growth.
  • Help with specific areas like legal, finance or strategy (as per your skillset).
  • Support our values and amplify our voice.
  • Get involved with other charity business depending on your interests and availability.
  • No previous trustee or board experience is required.
